The Wipe Wipe Song

Coming back from the lake, Rowan and Grandma favored us with this number. I especially like Rowan's take on it.

Lions, Tigers and Kittens....Oh My!

My mom and I headed out to a local pick-your-own-produce farm the other day. I guess it extends beyond just picking apples as there are animals there to pet and lots of stuff for the kiddies to enjoy. I thought Rowan might enjoy the morning there, so we went early when the weather was going to be bearable and we'd possibly be able to enjoy the place to ourselves. As we first approached the animal section, four beautiful little kittens ran up to us, obviously hoping we were going to bring some breakfast. Apparently this little stampede of furry hairballs was too much for Rowan- he freaked out. I've never seen a kid so scared of little kitties before, it's making me rethink sending him to boot camp. This really isn't going to score him any points on the playground. Then when we went to feed the goats, they were literally trampling over each other to get to our feed. A pair even started butting heads which didn't rub him the right way either. So I guess the moral of the story is if you have an overly sensitive boy, don't go to petting farms before the animals' breakfast. It's a scary place.

It's Official...

We've replaced ourselves in the general population. Glad that's done! Yes, it's a girl and we are very excited!

It's Been a While...

Since I've posted some pictures. Here's our growing boy!

The Cheesy Grin

Danger Zone

Rowanisms

While watching ScoobyDoo getting chased by monsters- "Mommy those people need a shotgun!" Granted Daddy had prepped him by saying something to that effect earlier.

"Mommy that's a scary face"- pointing to Ronald McDonald

Rowan is becoming a very imaginative boy. He plays wonderfully by himself, narrating stories as he goes. He also has just started to learn to pedal his bike.

Breakfast Conversations

This morning, in attempts to get Rowan to finish his yogurt, we were fooling around with him. Playing dumb seems to work well to get Rowan to do things he's otherwise resistant to doing (Thanks for teaching us this Grandpa). In this case we were telling Rowan that the yogurt goes in his ear and nose and he would correct us by showing us it goes in his mouth. After some conversation about why yogurt doesn't go anywhere but your mouth, this gem popped up.

Daddy: Well what's your nose for then, if it doesn't eat yogurt?
Rowan: Your nose is for smelling boogers Daddy.

More toast anyone?

What to do, what to do...

So I've experienced blogger's block. Things have been a little crazy here lately (out come the excuses) and I've been a slacker (out comes the truth).

The Excuses

My mom is (was) in town! We've had a lot of fun! Apparently so much that we have failed to take any pictures. It's a good thing she is coming back in a few days so I can do a last minute repentance by cataloging every mundane detail.

I'm taking the worst class on earth, from the worst teacher on earth, with the worst classmates on earth. Perhaps an exaggeration, but I'm really not enjoying this class. There was a syllabus at the beginning, but now it is nowhere to be found (online class). I've repeatedly asked for it to no avail. I think our professor is doing everything on the fly. I honestly have no idea what's ahead of me or what's behind me. I've done a paper, a mid-term, many discussion posts and the best I can get for an idea of a grade is "S". What the heck does that mean you ask? Well you are in good company- when I asked for clarification I got "satisfactorily passing the course" as opposed to the similarly informative "U" which of course means "unsatisfactorily passing the course." I feel so much better now.

And why do I bag on my classmates you ask? Well one, probably several, are outright plagiarizing/cut and pasting from their Google searches for their discussion posts and probably other assignments I'm not privy to. I emailed one girl telling her to cut it out after finding the original article she got her post from and was favored with a very sweet threat in return. Hubbie and my mom said not to involve myself, but my pride is hurt. While my professor praises the words of these cut and pasters, I get her wrath because I dare to ask for my grades and a syllabus. Say it with me- life just ain't fair. This is one example of a thought that doesn't come unless you cut and pasted it from several sources: "The color black, the corruption forces of capitalism perpetuating the town, annual lottery carrying out the selection of an unassuming individual." At least nothing is misspelled I guess.

And for my final excuse of the day, we have been in air conditioner...purgatory. My lovely 1970 Rheem deluxe model decided to die a slow death and after a full summer of blackouts, the maintenance people finally agreed with me that it was time to pull the plug. My mother has a nice little sublet down the block, so after one night of screaming and crying (Rowan wasn't doing so well either) we decided to sleep over at her place while we waited for our new air conditioner to be installed. The night we went over there, her air conditioner broke along with half the electrical outlets in the place. Yes, we are very lucky people. The day our new air conditioner was to be installed, my mother's sublet registered a temperature off the charts (the needle literally could point no further) so we were a little desperate for our place to be up and running. At 4:30pm the air conditioner guy said "well, I'm about an hour away from finishing so I'll be back in the morning." Nice. Super 8 anyone? Luckily my mom's place started to work a little so we were able to avoid spending $100 to sleep in the same room as Rowan. Was the wait worth it? Well, it runs a lot more than I thought it would, but I don't feel like moving to Alaska. Behold our new beauty.

On a less negative note, here are some new Rowanisms:

"Tell me a story about a blue front loader" Without fail we get this request before every nap and bedtime. It's definitely straining our creative juices as we tell a new one every time. Pretty soon we'll be telling Rowan about a blue front loader who had no air conditioner. I should be a children's book writer.

"Let's go find the troublemaker. I'll fight him with this stick" This was his declaration while we were walking today. The troublemaker ended up being the dirt- Rowan sure taught it a lesson.

"No I willn't" Refusal to cooperate has never been so cute.

And that's all she wrote.

Last Week's Garage Sale Specials

Apparently all little red wagons come with GPS systems these days. What'll they think of next? The GPS system was actually the cheaper of the two ($12!)- now I can nativigate to more garage sales and buy more things I don't need.
