Adventures in Astroturf

I guess the title kind of gives it away. No we don't live in California and just happen to have nice green grass in March. Our previous backyard was essentially mud and with warmer weather approaching, I was afraid to let Rowan outside and then back inside. My OCD wouldn't take it. This postage stamp of a backyard has undergone several transformations since we've moved in. We began with half dead sod, which was ripped out for grandiose plans for an elaborate garden. The garden was productive, but we were not productive about eating it. I should have realized the math wouldn't add up considering I have one recipe that involves radishes and 2 rows of them in the backyard. This also should have occurred to me since I am the only one in my family who eats vegetables (can you tell I didn't do well in math?). Anyways my mother always helps me get projects done and this was one of them while she was here. We laid down plastic and some beautiful green astroturf marking our descent into white trash history. Our home teacher told us he just put some down in his backyard as well, so at least we are in good company. Aside from the minature golf flashbacks, I'm really happy with it. Rowan can go outside without shoes for all I care. And if you walk by our fence and hear the vaccuum running you'll know I'm just cleaning the grass. Good stuff!

Easter Candy- the good kind

Our Easter Best

After looking at all the beautiful Easter dresses for sale this year, buying Rowan a new church outfit was a little less fun than it should have been. I don't think Steven would of approved of dressing Rowan up in tulle and bows- one of these days I hope to have a girl who will be at the mercy of my unexplained desire to dress a child up in poofy, over-accessorized clothing. Perhaps I'm just seeking revenge for all those contraptions I was put in as a child.

Anyways here is us on Easter morning. You can tell it's morning by the happy cheerful face Rowan in making in 1/100 pictures. Grandma Dorothy came down to visit and enjoy the festivities.

And in no particular order...

So after receiving several compliants that our previous methods of distibuting photos was an montage of unexplained events in our life, we've decided to dive into the murky waters of the blogosphere. That said, I have 3 months of previously undistributed pictures to address so the forthcoming posts are not going to be following a particular timeline. Oh well, it's the thought that counts, right?

So here's our Easter, Rowan liked the candy more this time around- no hard yucky jellybeans. We followed one of the few traditions I can remember as a child- gnawing on a huge chocolate bunny. It was too cold to go outside and hide eggs, but maybe next year we'll expand our horizons and even possibly dye eggs.

Happy Birthday to You...

See Video #2.  Alyssa, Rowan's buddy who comes over twice a week, started us off well. All the attention prompted Rowan's now infamous shoulder shrug and then he ran off to his dad.

Yet again more...

Rowan hoarded candy in his nail apron and settled down for a movie with his stash afterwards. Notice how all the candy is on his side- still working on sharing.
