Hi all, this post will be authored by a guest blogger, Steve, since the main contributor is out of commission for a day or two. Without further ado, here are some photos of the new addition.
This is going to be a heavy video post, which will probably only be of interest to some people. Christmas came and went without much of a bang this year. It was nice to have family come to us and not travel. I'm amazed no one got sick this year. No baby yet though- she's determined to stay in utero indefinitely. We have a scheduled induction starting Monday night and hope to welcome baby Nadia into the world on Tuesday (or before then if she cooperates!). Just in time for a tax deduction. :) I was hoping Grandma would have more time to see her and be around to help out, but apparently this baby has other plans. Rowan woke up Christmas morning in a foul mood and it took him a good 30 minutes before he could compose himself enough to come down and open presents. Anyone else heard of a kid who does that on Christmas morning? Maybe I was sending out contagious bad vibes after not going into labor. I have to say I was hoping for two Christmas babies, but at this point I'll take whatever I can get. Anyways, whatever the reason for Rowan's tantrum, it quickly ended once he came down and saw what was under the Christmas tree.

Our humble tree. Maybe one year we'll upgrade, but for now it suits our purposes.
Fireman to the rescue!
Rowan was pretty spoiled this year. My goal after Christmas was to get rid of a bunch of his old toys to make room for the new ones. Christmas and birthdays really should be separate events otherwise in 24 hours your house looks like the stock room at Toys R Us. I suppose I should be grateful I don't have two Christmas babies after all. Anyways, two large trash bags later and we are breathing a little easier, although he still has a lot to play with.

Steve got me some cool cabinet organizers and I got him some winter gear, a tie, and his guitar repaired- Grandma bought a new case for it. I didn't want in on the picture action and neither did Grandma, so there's a notable absence. We're pretty excited about this new camera from Grandma and Grandpa Luke though. It'll definitely get a lot of use in this next little while. We hope all our loved ones had a wonderful Christmas too and felt the spirit of the season wherever they may be.
The other morning I got up early and so I crawled into Rowan's bed when it was time for him to wake up. The following conversation ensued:
Rowan: (groggily) Mommy?
Mommy: Yes Rowan?
Rowan: Oh, I thought you were an earthquake.
Mommy: *!*
I guess the floors have been a little more squeaky lately.
No news on the baby front yet. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so we'll see what they say. Otherwise we've been reading books, waiting for Grandma's arrival on Friday, and waiting for baby Nadia to make her debut. Life is good.
With less than two weeks to go, I am so ready to have this baby. I really don't remember being this uncomfortable with Rowan. Anyways, we've been getting the house together and preparing for the baby, which hopefully will come any day now.
Last night we went to our ward Christmas party and Rowan was very excited to see Santa. Once again, crowds weren't his thing so we were among the last to sit on Santa's lap. Rowan has a competitive nature with us and his close friends, but when it comes to strangers his ability to act boldly quickly dissipates. Ultimately, I'm fine with his cautious nature because I wouldn't want to have the child that is tackling his way to the front of a line. Rowan and his friend both felt a little braver by going together to sit on Santa's lap this year. I had prepped Rowan by telling him he had to tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas or else he'd just have to hope that Santa would guess correctly. When Santa asked what these two cuties wanted it was like the flood gates opened and no one could get a word in edgewise. After they stopped talking at the same time, Rowan's friend asked for a fire helicopter and Rowan asked for a police helicopter. Two very different things, I assure you. I think they were just feeding off what each other was saying, although Rowan has been focused on "fire toys" as he puts it. It isn't enough that he already has plenty, he's an addict.

Not much else is new here. I've been feeling a little guilty about not doing as much this holiday season with Rowan, like crafts or cooking. Making family traditions really isn't something I feel capable of doing right now. I realized though the other day that sometimes these things just happen on their own volition. We've started a tradition over the past few months in the mornings where Rowan will crawl into our bed and snuggle while we discuss what we dreamed the night before. Rowan usually initiates by asking us what we dreamed about and then we in turn get to hear what went through our three year old's mind for the past 12 hours. There seems to be reoccurring themes such as caves with lions and bears or "nice monsters." One of my favorites the other day though was about a silo crying. I know this tradition probably won't continue as it would be inappropriate for our twelve year old son to hop into bed and snuggle with us in the mornings, but for now it has become one of my favorite moments of the day.
Rowan Yesterday: I'm tired of old Christmas, let's pack it away! (apparently the Christmas tree dared to obscure his view from the window)
Rowan: C'mon mom let's get these bad guys or else our house will be flooded with bad guys.
Rowan: But how does baby "N" get out of Mommy's tummy?
Mommy: Go talk to your father.
Rowan: I'm off like a shot!
Rowan while in his "space ship" aka window seat
Rowan: Go away space daddy
Space Daddy: But I thought you wanted to play space guys in your space ship?
Rowan: Not right now, because I'm going space poo. (No- still no progress on the space toilet frontier. Spock would be very disappointed with us)
